To inspire you or help you decide if you would like to be a Rotarian, we have asked one of our longest serving members to talk about his time involved with us.

"When I first joined North Dallas Rotary in 1978, I was a young hot-shot banker at the time and I felt my existence was a bit vacous. I was putting everything I could into my work but somehow I didn't feel complete. I searched the local yellow pages looking for community groups I could get involved in, they all looked great, but I wanted to use my own work experiences as well.

I saw the North Dallas rotary gave them a call and was invited along to their next meeting. We dined at a beautiful restaurant and the guest speaker we had was huge in his field. Not only was the whole evening pleasant and professionally set-up, but the conversations I had with the Rotarians were really swell.

What makes the rotary so fantastic is that you can combine helping other people with networking, I met a fellow banker and we helped each other out whenever we could.

We organize a whole range of fund-raising activities including fetes, rodeos and we even work with the local church.

Once I retired, I became more actively involved and started getting involved in our meals-on-wheels scheme, it's a simple idea but it is so rewarding, and makes me feel grateful to be as healthy and active as I am at my age.

In 2012 I hope to be going out to Kenya to do some aid work over there and continue with the fund-raising work.
